The more I learn about writing, the more I’m fascinated by it. Putting pen to paper—or

fingertips to keyboard—to engage an idea can seduce you. It can also drive you nuts. Each piece of writing defines its own path. To the author the quest inspires. Its horizon offers hope. But occasionally, the route falls into shadow, the trail forward turns gnarly, and the words that would pave the way are strewn and seemingly out of reach. Man, you gotta love an adventure like that.

Naturally, we can use all the help we can get. In the Road Blog, I’ll share some of the ideas, experiences, techniques, and exercises that have helped me in my writing life. And when I come across an impressive novel, short story, memoir, or craft book, I’ll share it. Good work deserves attention!
