Developmental Editing for Memoir

Before I read your manuscript, we’ll talk about what you want to achieve with your memoir and what you expect from our work together. We’ll talk about why you’re writing it. We'll look at this slice of your life and examine your journey, the challenges you faced, the perspective you gained, the resulting changes that took place. We’ll discuss your story’s target readers and what they'll gain from your journey. We'll look at your story's structure, its symbols, its theme. I’ll use the insight from our discussion to guide my editing. Since I have a tough time developmental editing without line editing, I’ll zoom in and analyze word choice, syntax, paragraph structure, dialogue, grammar, and punctuation. In the margins of your manuscript I’ll provide detailed com-mentary with suggestions for revision. I’ll also include a letter providing an overview of larger developmental concerns. Additionally, I’ll provide up to three hours of consultation in person, via Zoom, or by phone. If you would like, I will provide a digital recording of our consultation.

The goal of the editing and consultation is to provide you with an improved manuscript and pass on the skills that help you become a better writer and editor.
